Update: 2 hospitalized in morning chase in Sioux Falls
A South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper and a 25-year-old woman were hospitalized in Sioux Falls following a car chase Wednesday Morning.
The South Dakota Attorney General's office confirms the 25-year-old suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital.
South Dakota Highway Patrol confirms that a trooper was run over by the suspect at 57th and Western. The trooper is in critical but stable condition. Highway Patrol Captain Kevin Joffer said the suspect was apprehended at 47th Street and Western Avenue.
Joffer said he believes shots were fired by law enforcement.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation when the investigation is completed. According to the Attorney General's office, the release of the summary report is anticipated within 30 day.
Western Avenue is back open.
SD Highway patrol confirms that A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper has been injured in a car chase in Sioux Falls early this morning. The chase began around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
A trooper was injured at the Bridges at 57th & Western shopping complex and taken away in an ambulance.
The chase proceeded down Western Ave. to 47th St. where the car was stopped. We do know that the car that was being chased had damage to it and, when our crew arrived, appeared to have bullet holes in the side of it.
The driver of the car being chased was taken away in an ambulance.
We do not know the extent of the injuries to the highway patrol officer or the person who was being chased.
The Sioux Falls Police, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Lincoln County and Minnehaha County Sheriff were both on scene. We will continue to update you as soon as more information is available.
