A 25-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in Wednesday morning's car chase in Sioux Falls.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the Division of Criminal Investigation is now investigating the incident, at the request of South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at 57th Street and Western Avenue in Sioux Falls early Wednesday morning. According to the Attorney General's office, a South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the woman refused and a short pursuit ensued.

The Attorney General's office said the incident escalated to the Trooper being hit by the suspect's vehicle. The trooper is currently in critical condition in a Sioux Falls hospital.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will issue a case report and shooting summation when the investigation is completed. According to the Attorney General's office, the release of the summary report is anticipated within 30 day.
