Shops at 57th and Western re-open after shooting investigation

Posted: Updated:

Businesses at The Bridges at 57th are back open tonight after an early morning car chase and shooting.

Investigators closed the parking lot and shut down businesses for hours this morning and into the afternoon.

KSFY News has been at the scene throughout the day as the investigation continues.

Anyone who tried to go to The Bridges shopping center this morning was probably met by police.

Stores at The Bridges just re-opened a few hours ago.

Many store managers who we spoke with told us the closure took a direct hit to their bottom line.

Tom Scheier owns Scooter's Coffeehouse. Early this morning, he found out today was going to be a day unlike any other.

"I got a call at 4:30 from my landlord and she stated there was an incident down at the bridges and the police had it all closed off. so we wouldn't be able to open out store at 6:30," Scheier said.

Scheier said most of his lost business comes from people coming in to get their morning coffee.

"60% at least, 70% is lost because it was closed," Scheier said.

Jake Brager manages Complete Nutrition. He says word about having to shut down today spread fast.

"I had heard from some people that work in the area about it and I called my boss and he said just go there and see if you can get in and do paperwork and things like that.  But basically there was no way for us to do anything," Brager said.

Police are putting together the elements of the chase and shooting like pieces of a puzzle.

Highway Patrol Captain Kevin Joffer said "this ended up being a multi-location type of event. I don't want to get into the particulars of anything because we're still trying to piece it together."

But there's one key element police are concerned about.

"Our main purpose has been to attend to the trooper and his family to make sure he's doing ok. we're letting the investigators take the lead on piecing it together," Joffer said.

I spoke with a manager at the salon Sport Clips. Her store directly overlooks the crime scene.

She didn't want to go on camera but she told me she is pulling surveillance video from this morning for police to use in their investigation.
