A Senator's passion to eliminate world hunger

Posted: Updated:

In just the past decade, or so, Senator George McGovern has turned his focus to Feeding South Dakota, in his efforts to end world hunger.

It is an organization with a mission to eliminate world hunger. That mission lines right up with that of the late Senator George McGovern's.

"As an organization whose mission is to eliminate hunger, we've been blessed to have the opportunity to have his representation in our state and across the world in that same goal," Kerri DeGraff said.

DeGraff says George McGovern had remarkable passion for helping the hungry and brought a lot of attention to the cause.

"When you have an individual like him who has more of the ability to be in the spotlight and create more awareness, I would say we're humbled," DeGraff said.

She goes back to the days he spent in the Feeding South Dakota warehouse.

"The time he spent here, he spent that time getting to know us, asked a lot of questions. Inquisitive, wanted to know what we're doing, how we're working to eliminate hunger," she said.

DeGraff, and the rest of the staff at Feeding South Dakota, will always remember McGovern and honor him for the strong legacy he leaves behind.

Family and close friends of Senator George McGovern ask that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, please make donations and contributions to Feeding South Dakota.
