Senior citizens gathered Wednesday in Sioux Falls to learn how they can take a hand in protecting their identity.
It was a free class called "Street Smarts for Seniors."
Officer Greg Schmidt says older people can be susceptible to scams targeting their identities and their bank accounts.
"We forget about these things. Maybe when we were younger we knew about them. Then we kind of let them go, but there's always something new that's out there. The more education the better. That way they don't become a victim and we don't have to deal with it down the line," said Schmidt.
For those who missed Wednesday's class, there will be another one next month.
