1. Grassfire nearly destroys town of Bucyrus North Dakota

More than two dozen people were evacuated as a wildfire swept through the southwestern North Dakota town of Bucyrus. No major injuries were reported in the Wednesday fire, but authorities say there is little left of the town. A shelter was set up in the nearby town of Hettinger for people left homeless.

2. Sen. George McGovern remains unresponsive

McGovern remains in care at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, where he was admitted to Monday October 15. According to a release from Avera Health, McGovern is surrounded by his loving family and close friends.

3. Wagner man in toddler death pleads to drug charges 

One of two adults arrested after a 2-year-old girl was found dead in their Wagner home has pleaded guilty to drug charges. Taylor Cournoyer pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine and keeping a place for use or sale of drugs. He also admitted to being a habitual offender, which exposes him to an elevated prison sentence of 25 years.

4. Meningitis Death Toll Hits 19

Four more deaths from the nationwide meningitis outbreak have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The death toll now stands at 19.

5. Newsweek ending print edition, job cuts expected

Newsweek plans to end its print publication after 80 years and will shift to an all-digital format aimed at online users starting in early 2013. Job cuts are expected.
