High winds are causing damage in Sioux Falls Thursday, keeping the parks and recreation department busy with clean up.
A tree fell at 33rd Street and Western Avenue in Sioux Falls Thursday morning. A Parks and Recreation worker said while its common for trees to fall due to high wind speeds, it is more common when there is ice or even high humidity.
In the instance at 33rd Street and Western Avenue, the worker said the tree fell at about the perfect spot. The worker said no one was hurt, it did not hit any houses and it did not block traffic. The base of the tree was rotted and now the rest of it will have to be removed at some point.
The worker said the only thing affected was a "For Rent" sign—which was obliterated.
