South Dakota unemployment stays steady around 4.4 percent

Preliminary numbers show South Dakota's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is staying steady at 4.4 percent.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, South Dakota's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 4.3 percent during the first three quarters of 2012.  The bureau said the rate fluctuated during the most recent quarter reaching 4.5 percent in August.

From September 2011-2012 South Dakota's labor force decreased by 3,400 to 442,600. Meanwhile, the level of unemployed decreased by 400 to 19,700, and the level of employed decreased by 3,000 to 422,900.
