Time now for our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week. Her name is Rachel Thiewes. She is a senior at Deuel High School and she carries an incredible 4.04 grade point average. And she has already had her eye on college for two years now.
These days, thriving in high school can be tough because the curriculum is so much more advanced than in years past. Rachel Thiewes is rising to that challenge. She is now only doing well in her high school classes...but in her college classes too. "Currently I'm taking Biology 153 which is a college course. I took two college courses last year as a junior."
And those college courses weren't easy pickings: they dealt with both biology and chemistry. And if you're starting to get the hint that Rachel is a good student, her science teacher Ramona Lundberg confirms it. "She's always upbeat and interested in what we are going to do. She's the kind of student that makes teaching fun."
Rachel says she's headed off to college next year: she is trying to make a choice between USD and SDSU. And as far as what she wants to study when she goes to college..she is still trying to make that decision too. "I'm hoping to go into either the biology field, like in the medical field or psychology. I'm undecided yet but I'm leaning towards those two."
And for being named our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, Rachel will receive a $100 scholarship from H-D Electric Cooperative....which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
