Augie, USF Meet For First Time in 26 Years

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in 26 years, Augustana and the Univerisity of Sioux Falls will meet on the football field at Augie tomorrow.

USF had moved to Division II, and are in their first season in the Northern Sun Conference.  The Cougars are 6-1 and definitely in the hunt for a playoff spot in their first year of playoff eligibility.

It's been a disappointing year for Augie.  At 3-4, they're out of the playoff hunt.

But throw everything out with what's happened this season, it's a symbolic game of a longstanding D2 school against a former NAIA power.

There's been a lot the debate of who would win between these two over the years.  So is this just another game?  Here's what the coaches say.

"We look at it as game eight on our schedule.  We want to finish the season strong, it's a big game, but it's the only game we play this week."  says Augie head coach Mike Aldrich.

"We'd be decieving you if we said it's just another game.  But we have to look at it that way.  But people have been wanting to see this for a long time." says USF head coach Jed Stugart.

Things will kick off at 1pm tomorrow at Augustana's Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
