LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the second consecutive week, the Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team holds the No. 1 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
After making history by earning the first ever No. 1 ranking in program history last week, the Mustangs (21-1) remain the No. 1 ranked team following match wins over the University of Sioux Falls, the University of Mary and Minot State this past weekend.
SMSU (795) claimed 28 of 32 first place votes to earn the top ranking.
Concordia-St. Paul (750) is now ranked No. 2, while Washburn (723), Nebraska-Kearney (675) and Minnesota Duluth (653) round out the top five. Every team in the top five of this week's AVCA Top 25 Poll are members of the Central Region. Other NSIC schools to be ranked in the AVCA Top 25 this week were: Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State (14th), and Wayne State (18th).
Southwest Minnesota State has now been ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for 88 consecutive weeks, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006.
SMSU will hit the road this weekend as the Mustangs will take on Winona State and Upper Iowa.
