Posted: Updated:

PINE RIDGE, S.D. (AP) - Services have been scheduled for former American Indian Movement activist Russell Means.

Means died Monday morning at his home on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. He was 72.

A news release from the Oglala Sioux Tribe says wake services for Means are scheduled for Wednesday at the Little Wound School in Kyle, on the Pine Ridge reservation. His ashes will be scattered in the Black Hills of South Dakota on Thursday.

Means helped lead the 1973 uprising at Wounded Knee, reveled in stirring up attention and appeared in Hollywood films, including "The Last of the Mohicans."
