Planetarium film to feature Lead dark-matter lab

Posted: Updated:

LEAD, S.D. (AP) - A planetarium film that could reach as many as 110 million people each year is set to feature the underground dark-matter lab located in a shuttered gold mine in Lead.

Producers of the film said "Secret of the Dark Galaxy: From the Higgs Boson to Dark Matter" will explain dark matter. The show starts with the Big Bang theory and takes viewers on a trip through dark-matter theories and experiments.

Sanford Lab's Large Underground Xenon dark-matter lab is housed a mile underground in the old Homestake Gold Mine.

The 25-minute film will also feature the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland, where scientists announced the discovery of the enigmatic Higgs boson particle that physicists say is fundamental to the creation of the universe.
