Sioux Falls unveils plan for Sports and Entertainment District
The City of Sioux Falls unveiled a plan to create a sports and entertainment district to coincide with the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
The Sioux Falls Sports and Entertainment District is made up of "The Den", Sioux Falls Regional Airport, Elmwood Golf Course and Sanford Sports Complex, among other attractions.
The boundaries of the proposed district extend to the north from Interstate 90, west to Interstate 29, south to Third Street and east to Minnesota Avenue.
"The creation of this comprehensive plan provides a tool, and a great opportunity, for us to market what we are calling the Sioux Falls Sports and Entertainment District to developers, commercial brokers and others throughout the region and United States," said Darrin Smith, Director of Community Development for the City. "It really provides these firms and individuals with everything they need to know about the area so they can pursue development opportunities."
The City projects the plan to provide substantial increases to population, households and jobs within a three-mile radius of the District. Over the next 25 years, the District is expected to increase the population in that area by 10,771, increase households by more than 5,000 and create approximately 15,000 jobs.
The City is expected to use the plan to market the area and the area's development opportunities locally, regionally and nationally. According to the City, as activities and interests expand in the proposed district, many challenges stand in the way of taking full advantage of connecting all the facilities into the Sports and Entertainment District.
