Aberdeen Boys and Girls Club honored with attendance award

Posted: Updated:

The Aberdeen Boys and Girls Club is one of twelve organizations in the Midwest to win the Gateway to Impact Award.

The award is given to clubs who see a large increase in daily attendance.

The Aberdeen Boys and Girls Club has been on First Avenue for more than forty years, and sees around 150 kids walk through the doors a day.

Executive Director, Michael Herman told KSFY, even though he is honored by the award the club will still strive to exceed expectations.

"This doesn't mean the work is done," Herman said.  "We must continue to work hard to offer programs, and continue to offer exciting opportunities for our youth, and continue to grow."

With the higher attendance the Aberdeen Boys and Girls Club has began fundraising for a new 25,000 square foot facility.

The new facility would be placed right next door to the active club.

The public is encouraged to attend the Boys and Girls Club 2013 Awards Banquet and Burger Night, at the Ramkota Inn Conference Center.

The dinner and banquet is scheduled for February, 8, 2013, and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer, Dave Winfield is expected to be a guest speaker.
