Witness list and certificate filed for Eric Robert execution

The South Dakota Department of Corrections has filed the Certificate of Execution for Eric Donald Robert, which also shows the list of those who witnessed Robert's execution.

Robert was executed October 15 for the killing of Correctional Officer Ronald "RJ" Johnson during a failed escape attempt April 12, 2011.

The certificate of execution shows how Robert was executed in accordance with the Judgment and Conviction of Sentence and Warrant of Execution issued by the Honorable Bradley Zell.

The list of witnesses to the execution include:

The Provisional Anatomic Diagnosis reported by Dr. Kenneth Snell shows Robert suffered no external or internal trauma.

The autopsy report within the certificate showed Eric Robert's cause of death was "pentobarbital toxicity due to judicial execution." The manner of death was "homicide."

South Dakota State Law requires the warden to prepare and sign a certificate of execution stating the time, place and manner of the execution. The certificate must be filed within ten days after the execution.
