Saturday marked the second round of the Minnesota high school football playoffs. Several of the top local teams did battle for the right to advance to the November quarterfinals.
In the day's top 9-man contest, defending champion Edgerton/Ellsworth blasted No. 2 Hills-Beaver Creek 42-0. It was the second straight year the Flying Dutchmen have eliminated the Patriots from playoff contention.
This afternoon several 11-man teams were also fighting for the right to continue their season. In Class AA, Luverne rolled over Pipestone 48-21 behind a stout rushing attack to move forward. A short distance away, Adrian rallied from a 6-0 halftime deficit to top Murray County Central 12-6.
