More than $12,000 raised for Trooper Steen

Posted: Updated:

Taco John's restaurants in Sioux Falls, with the help of its customers, along with Thrivent Financial and First Bank & Trust raised more than $12,000 to support an injured South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper.

Trooper Andrew Steen, an eight-year veteran with the Highway Patrol, is recovering from a broken ankle injury and a head injury he received in the line of duty. The 34-year-old was allegedly hit by a car while attempting to make a traffic stop that turned into a pursuit.

Taco John's restaurants in Sioux Falls held a fundraiser from 6:30 am to 10:30 am Monday for Trooper Steen and his family. The restaurants donated 50 percent of their revenue during that time—which turned out to be $9,292.26.

Thrivent Financial agreed to match $2,000 and First Bank & Trust agreed to match $1,000.
