Sioux Falls police say a drunk driver hit a couple cars and took out some air conditioning units before running into a church.
Robert Larson, 73, of Sioux Falls was arrested for his first Driving While Intoxicated charge. The incident happened shortly after midnight in the parking lot of 3517 South Gateway Blvd., the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod District Office.
Sioux Falls police say Larson was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty with a 77-year-old female passenger. It all started when Larson pulled into the parking lot where he was trying to turn around.
Police say Larson rapidly accelerated backward and struck two air conditioning units. He then rapidly accelerated forward hitting a small tree before running into Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod District Office building.
Officer Sam Clemens said at some point Larson hit two other parked cars in the parking lot.
The woman passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital with a broken leg.
Larson's Jeep had $9,000 damage. Clemens said the value of the other damage done is unknown at this time.
