Police chase ends with rollover in central Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:

A police chase over a stolen car in the central part of Sioux Falls led to the suspect being sent to the hospital after the vehicle rolled.

Officer Sam Clemens, Sioux Falls Police, said Friday afternoon a vehicle was stolen from the 500 block of South Duluth Avenue. Clemens said while an officer was reporting the stolen vehicle other officers actually spotted it.

The officers saw the suspect at 8th Street and Trapp Avenue. Clemens said they tried stopping the suspect at 8th Street and Prairie Avenue, and when they turned on their lights the suspect drove off.

The suspect continued south on Prairie Avenue and the officers called off their pursuit.

The officers said they were two blocks behind the suspect where they saw the driver lose control, hit a tree and roll the vehicle.

The crash ended at the intersection of 12th Street and Prairie Avenue. Clemens said no one else was inside the vehicle. The suspect was taken to the hospital, and there is no information on the suspect's condition.

Clemens said charges have not been filed and the suspect could be a juvenile.
