On Friday, Minnesota and Iowa high school football reached the sectional finals stage, with several local teams competing for the chance to advance.
In Minnesota, last year's champion Edgerton/Ellworth fell to No. 1 seed Clinton-Gracesville-Beardsley, 38-20 in a 9-man rematch. In Class AA, Jackson County Central topped Luverne, 35-28 and in Class A, St. Clair outlasted Adrian, 15-12.
One state south, Spirit Lake advanced with a 21-17 win over Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in Class 2A. Meanwhile, Emmetsburg trumped IKM-Manning in Class 1A, 55-7. Finally, in Class A, Hinton topped Akron-Westfield in a barn burner, 42-28.
