HUBBARD, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Public Safety says a central Iowa sheriff shot a teenage suspected during a confrontation.
The department says the shooting occurred Friday afternoon after Hardin County Sheriff Timothy Smith responded to a report of someone shooting at a vehicle along a county road north of Hubbard. Smith told investigators that when he confronted the 17 year old suspect in that shooting, the teen raised a gun toward Smith. Smith says when the teen refused to drop the weapon, Smith shot the teen.
The teen was flown to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. His condition is not known.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
