Knowing your ballot before you vote

Posted: Updated:

It's hard to believe but we are just two days away from Election Day. Do you know what's on your ballot?

Not only are we voting for our next President but there are a handful of issues on the ballot, this year, that affect the entire state and a lot of passionate people behind them.

From candidates to issues and proposed amendments, voters say this is a detrimental year for South Dakota.

Measure 15 deals with raising state sales and use taxes from 4-5% in order to fund the future of K-12 education and Medicaid.

There's also Referred Law 15 with supporters who say excise tax money should go to a new large project development fund while those who oppose say this will lead to corporate welfare.

Referred Law 16 talks about the Education Reform Act with its 5 key components stemming from Governor Daugaard's Education Plan.

As each county has it's specific ballot, Auditor Bob Litz says doing your homework is important.

"You can tell there's a lot of excitement out there. There's also that sense that people want this to be over with. We've been through the political season with the ads, the commercials on TV and the magazines, folks are ready for this to be over," Bob Litz said.

Keep in mind, if you haven't seen your ballot and want to brush up on your issues before you hit the polls, you still have time to visit the Secretary of State's web site.
