If you're looking for a way to give back here at home this holiday season, your chance might be here sooner than you think.
Feeding South Dakota is launching its 2nd annual Turkey Drive for families in need across the state of South Dakota and it extends from November 5-9.
In our state, there are more than 100,000 people who are considered 'food insecure'. In other words, they lack access to proper meals each day. With this food drive, Feeding SD is hoping to give 5,000 families everything they need for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
Last year, the organization fed close to 2,000 families so this year, its stepping up with a new goal.
Development Director Kerri DeGraff says there's an 11% increase from last year in people going to Sioux Falls' Food Pantry which means there's even more need for the holidays.
"We want to do our best to provide a traditional meal to those families. We hope we have a good response this year and we're able to meet our increasing demand and need," Development Director Kerri DeGraff said.
There are a number of ways YOU can help from donating a turkey, the fixings or just $20 for Feeding SD to buy the meal.
