Posted: Updated:

Over 400 volunteers are ready to meet voters in Minnehaha County to make sure they cast their votes as easily and quickly as possible.

South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says it's a Presidential election year and usually more people come out to the polls in a Presidential election. Secretary Gant is hoping for a busy voter turnout on Tuesday.

We also spoke with Minnehaha County Auditor Bob Litz about what to keep in mind on election day. He says polling places will be open from 7:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. in South Dakota. He says make sure you bring a photo ID with you. Acceptable IDs are a driver's licence, a passport, a tribal ID card, or a current student ID card. Basically you'll want an official ID that has a picture. Litz also says, do your homework before you go to the polls. He says knowing who and what you are voting for ahead of time will help keep lines moving. If you had a ballot mailed to you, he says you have until 7:00p.m. to get that ballot turned in on Tuesday. Absentee voting will go from 8:00a.m. until 3:00p.m. in the County Auditor's office on Tuesday. Litz says he'll have about 475 people working during the election.

If you are planning to vote Tuesday here are some times to keep in mind. Most polls open in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa at 7:00a.m. Across South Dakota, polls close at 7:00p.m. Minnesota polls close at 8:00p.m and in Iowa, ballots can be cast until 9:00p.m.

If you aren't sure where to vote, use the link on the left side of your page. It will take you to the Secretary of State's Website.. There you can enter your name and birth date to find out where your polling place is.
