Investigators are still looking into the cause of a Sioux Falls apartment fire which killed one man early this morning.
KSFY News was at the scene today and spoke with one of the neighbors, who was also a friend of the man who died.
"My heart is broken down. I lost a friend," neighbor Lydia Cham said.
Cham awoke to a commotion this morning, just across the way by her friend's apartment.
"Last night, when I looked out my window, I was like, why are there so many police cars outside, but I was too tired to come out, or ambulances, or fire trucks. I'm just like, no, it's probably somewhere else. I didn't expect that it was going to be him," Cham said.
Cham said she can't believe she just saw her friend Heath Westphal last night.
"Last night, me and my sister were the last ones to see him because I went to drop off some movies and we watched one of his last videos of his dad, because his dad was a famous rock star singer here," Cham said.
Cham just moved into the apartment complex 5 months ago, but they quickly became friends.
"He was like my best friend, I can call it. Even though we had different views because I'm African and he's white, but it was funny argument where you just want to be there and just laugh because it was too hilarious," Cham said.
Cham said not only was Westphal funny but he was a good guy.
"Just a comedian, he was a very funny comedian. A guy who wanted the best for his daughter and the best for him. A hard worker," Cham said.
Although they only knew each other a very short time, Lydia said Westphal deeply touched her life.
Heath Westphal's father, Dennis, died in June.
Dennis Westphal was a popular, professional musician from the mid 70s to the mid 80s.
