Father and daughter will serve the same district as South Dakota State Representatives

Jenna Haggar came home with a win Tuesday night, securing another term on the South Dakota State House of Representatives.

Haggar said her family's ties to South Dakota politics go all the way back to her grandfather who served on the South Dakota State Legislature in the 1950s.

"It kind of follows the family tradition.  I had good success before and now my son and my grand daughter are carrying it on," said Don Haggar Senior.

Haggar's granddaughter Jenna, first carried on that legacy in 2010, becoming the youngest woman to ever serve on the South Dakota State Legislature at age 24.

This year, at 26, she was able to come home with a win yet again, even though she faced her toughest competitor…her Dad.

"It's like the Olympics, we're looking for the gold and silver, we're on the same team," said Jenna's Dad, Don Haggar Junior.

The father-daughter duo did all of their campaigning together.

"I think Dad probably wanted me to win more than he wanted himself to win and I definitely wanted my dad to come at successful as well, and so I think the most ideal situation happened in which we were both able to get elected," said Jenna Haggar.

Jenna and her Dad will both represent District 10 near Sioux Falls, in the South Dakota House of Representatives.

"Do I think we'll agree every time, no, no I don't, and then she and I will talk over dinner after that happens," said Don Haggar Junior.

Don Senior believes because his son and granddaughter are still living under the same roof, they will be able to work together to do great things for South Dakota.

"I hope to see a lot of it in my lifetime," said Don Haggar Senior.
