South Dakota, North Dakota governors place wager on SDSU-NDSU game

Posted: Updated:

South Dakota's and North Dakota's governors have placed a wager on Saturday's game between the Jackrabbits and the Bison.

This Saturday, South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University meet in the Fargodome at Fargo for the annual Dakota Marker game.

South Dakota Governor Daugaard has offered North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple a South Dakota buffalo steak dinner if the NDSU Bison beat the Jackrabbits. Dalrymple will send a gift basket filled with Cloverdale meats to Daugaard if the SDSU Jackrabbits come out on top.

"The Jackrabbits are on a roll, and North Dakota State is in for a rude awakening this Saturday," Daugaard said in a news release.  "I'm looking forward to winning the Dakota Marker back from the Bison this weekend, and then dining on some Cloverdale sausage, ham and ribs with Gov. Dalrymple to celebrate SDSU's victory."

"I'm confident that the Bison will keep the Dakota Marker trophy in Fargo for a third consecutive year," Dalrymple said in a news release. "After last year's Bison victory, I enjoyed Gov. Daugaard's smoked pheasant and I have no doubt that his buffalo steak is every bit as good.  The Dakota Marker game is a great rivalry and both teams represent their state very well in the Missouri Valley Football Conference."

The game marks the 99th meeting between the two teams and the ninth game with the Dakota Marker on the line.
