Our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week will likely one day help people overcome illness.
She loves studying science and she says she wants to turn that love into a career.
Her name is Danielle Van Kooten and she is a senior at Sioux Valley High School in Volga.
Danielle Van Kooten carries a 3.95 grade point average at Sioux Valley High School in Volga and she does so carrying a busy schedule of classes. Last year, she actually doubled up on two sciences classes so she would be able to develop a greater understanding of biology...something she knows she will need if she is to fulfill her goal of becoming a pediatric nurse. "I'd say more with kids and families...stuff like that. For the most part."
It is that love of science...biology...anatomy and the like....that has led to Danielle spending a lot of time with Jamie Tucker...who is a science teacher at Sioux Valley High School and tells us the good news is that Danielle has lots of options..but the bad news is...Danielle has lots of options. "For Danielle, she is so good at a lot of things that it makes it really difficult for her to choose what she's gonna do."
So far, Danielle is set on nursing. She doesn't know where she is going to go to college yet...she has applications out to several different schools. But she says after college, she wants to stay around these parts. "I would like to stay in this general area. In the Midwest. Not saying that I don't want to move far away because I like to travel but its kinda grown on me living here."
And for being named our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, Danielle will receive a $100 scholarship from Sioux Valley Energy....which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
