Benefit for crash survivor helps cover expenses

Posted: Updated:

A Hartford man who survived a fatal motorcycle hit and run this summer was surrounded by friends and even some strangers today who want to help with his medical bills.

Sean Burns and his friend Tracy Handel were riding near 26th St. and Grange Ave. in Sioux Falls late July 26th when police say they were rear-ended by a drunk driver. Tracy Handel, 36, later died from her injuries.

Sean Burns, 41, was in the hospital for 2 and 1/2 months and is still recovering from 14 different fractures.

Saturday Tracy's sister Tammy Handel organized a benefit to help Sean with his expenses and lost wages.

"It's pretty amazing. I don't even know how to put in words. All the people in here and all the cars in the parking lot. I'm just very appreciative," says Sean.

They also sold raffle tickets for a grand prize of a custom paint job on anything you want.
