The 2012 Nike Heartland Regional took place at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls on Sunday. Many of the Midwest's best braved the cold to compete in one of the top cross country meets of the year.
On the boy's side. Bismarck's (N.D.) Jake Leingang set an event record with a lights out time of 15:16:04. One of the top local runners in the event, Brookings Addision Dehaven placed 10th with a final of 15:47:06.
In the earlier race, Shakopee's (M.N.) Maria Hauger took top honors for the girls with a time of 17:33:55.
The top times qualify for the national championships on Dec. 1 in Portland, Ore.
