Feeding South Dakota fundraiser receives more than 1000 turkeys
Last week's Feeding South Dakota Turkey Drive in Sioux Falls raised more than 1000 turkeys.
Feeding South Dakota Development Director Kerri DeGraff tells KSFY News they have 1015 turkeys from the drive. Many of those turkeys were purchased through cash donations. Feeding South Dakota received $5,100 in cash donations thus far to purchase turkeys.
DeGraff said those funds have also helped to purchase other fixings that they are low on, such as stuffing.
Feeding South Dakota started handing out turkeys Monday and so far has provided more than 350 turkeys. It is distributing turkeys up until Thanksgiving. DeGraff said it expects Feeding South Dakota will need at least 1,000 more turkeys because it distributed more than 2500 turkeys in 2011.
"Because we have seen an increase of 11 percent at our food pantries this year, we expect to distribute more turkeys to meet the increasing needs," DeGraff
DeGraff said Feeding South Dakota could run out of turkeys late this week or early next week.
