The Sacred Heart Catholic Church is undergoing a $335,000 repair project to fix the roof of the church.
"Water damage," Father Shane Stevens of the church said. "…We got up there and realized there was a significant amount of hail and other ice damage that needed to be repaired."
The church was built in 1933 and to Father Stevens' knowledge this is the first major roof repair in the church's history.
Garlock-French Roofing Corp., has been called in from Minneapolis to do the construction and expects it will take a few more weeks to finish the project- weather permitting.
The recent ice and snowfall the Aberdeen area has seen has created slippery conditions for the workers, and Father Stevens says he sends a few extra prayers to keep the workers safe.
"I pray for them that they are safe," Fathers Stevens told KSFY News. "We blessed them and prayed before they started to work. It is high up there, I couldn't do it.
$200,000 of the project will be covered by the church's insurance company. The other $135,000 will be the responsibility of Sacred Heart's congregation.
