SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A man who had been living in South Dakota has pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the country.
U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Cristian Mendez-Barrientos, 25, acknowledged entering the country illegally after being deported during a hearing last week.
Authorities discovered Mendez-Barrientos was in the country illegally in September after previously being deported to Guatemala in 2010. He had been residing in Alpena.
The maximum penalty for the charge is two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for Dec. 14.
