Warner sports fans find a new use for old election signs

Posted: Updated:

The Warner High School volleyball team departed Wednesday for the state tournament in Mitchell.

The boy's cross-country and football teams played in the state championships early this season, and now it is time for the Monarch's volleyball team to try their luck at capturing a title.

Coach Kari Jung has been in charge on the girls' program for fifteen years and will try to win her third state title.

"I guess I am little more relaxed going in because I know what to expect," Coach Jung said.  "I just need to make sure to keep the players relaxed."

The community is backing "Big Blue" as well.  Fans in Warner redecorated old election signs across town to show their support.

Senior Emily Larson appreciates all the enthusiasm the town has shown, and says the fans contribute to their play.

"When the fans are cheering and showing support, we play better," the senior said. "We really want our fans to come out and help us get these victories."

Warner will take on Timber Lake High School in the opening round on Thursday at 7:45 p.m. in the Mitchell Corn Palace.
