SDSU and USD renew rivalry

Posted: Updated:

For now everyone is playing nice. The game ball is passed from mascot to mascot, USD supporter to SDSU supporter. But, once this ball makes the 115 mile trek from the Dakota Dome to Coughlin-Alumni Stadium, it will be on.

"You have billboards and you always hear about the rivalry, but it's fun to actually get to be a part of it and start it back up. It's a big deal," said USD student Alison Hoffman.

30 cadets from SDSU and USD took turns running the ball. It's safe to safe the USD cadets won't be met with hugs and kisses.

"I've been talking trash as much as I can. All over Twitter, some on Facebook," said SDSU student Cody Pearson.

Saturday's football game has been building for nine years. LIke SDSU's marching band, this rivarly truly is the pride of the Dakotas.

"(It's) as good as it gets in this part of the country. Our students and the band are all fired up. There have been a whole bunch of activities around this rivalry," said SDSU band director Jim Coull.

Not surprising, the folks we spoke with are pulling for their respective schools.

"Got to go Coyotes!"

"Go Jacks! I don't think we're going to have a problem because we have an absolutely superior team in every way, shape, and form."
