The Sioux Falls Police Department has released more details in the death at the Minnehaha County Detoxification Center.

On November 18, at 5:08 pm officers were dispatched to a person threatening suicide at a residence in the 5900-block of Owl Place. Rural Metro Ambulance responded to the scene. The 48-year-old woman who was threatening suicide was located by officers.

According to the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, the woman had been drinking rubbing alcohol and whiskey. Ambulance personnel cleared the woman, after consulting over the phone with an emergency room physician.

According to the sheriff's office, the woman voluntarily agreed to go to the Crisis Care Center in the Public Safety Building, and Sioux Falls police transported her there. The Mobile Crisis team met with the woman and later made the determination to have her taken to the adjoining Detox Center.

Sioux Falls police turned the woman over to Detox staff and were cleared from the call.

According to sheriff's office, several hours later at 9:43 pm officers were sent back over for a medical emergency on a subject who was not conscious or breathing. The medical emergency involved the 48-year-old woman the officers dealt with earlier.

According to a release by the Minnehaha County Sheriff's office, life-saving measures were taken by Detox staff, the jail staff who responded to the medical emergency and emergency responders. The woman was transported by ambulance and she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was conducted Monday. The sheriff office's investigation is still an ongoing matter.
