Local bars, restaurants get set for 'Thanksgiving Eve'

Posted: Updated:

The holidays are officially here. That means, for bars and restaurants across the KSFY viewing area, workers are pulling double duty.

Thanksgiving Eve, or the day before Thanksgiving, marks one of the top 'bar nights' of the year.

"The day before Thanksgiving is right up there with Halloween, New Years Eve. Everyone's back in town and they're going to hang out with people they haven't seen in awhile," 18th Amendment Manager John Geiken said.

The night before Thanksgiving is known to be one of the top 5 bar nights of the year. It's good, not only for reuniting with old friends, but for business that is sure to last through the weekend.

"I get a lot of people in here that haven't been here before that may enjoy their experience and stop in around Christmas," Geiken said.

Geiken said this was the night he, and his staff, were expecting to be a success.

"People have to eat food and watch football tomorrow. It's not the most extravagant day so going out and visiting with friends they haven't seen in awhile, it is like a homecoming," Geiken said.

It's happening around Sioux Falls, including downtown. People are enjoying not only the holiday season, but the weather, and often times more choices of places to go.

"We often travel to downtown Omaha or Kansas City. Every year there's more restaurants, things to do, so we're trying to take advantage of what we have here in Sioux Falls," Chris and Sarah Ekholm said.

With good Sioux Falls weather, a full staff at the bars and plenty of choices, people are ready to celebrate.

"This is a great week. Tomorrow night we have a live DJ, dance party, it's an all around great weekend," Geiken said.
