Vikings remain undefeated with win at Oahu Classic

Posted: Updated:

Augustana remained undefeated after taking down Northwood (MI) on Thanksgiving afternoon 76-64 in the first game of the Oahu Classic.  The Vikings move to 3-0 on the season while the Timberwolves drop to 2-2.

Faith Tinklenberg led Augustana with a game-high 19 points and four Vikings reached double figures.  Emily Schulte stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight assists, two steals, two blocks, and two rebounds.

The Viking defense led them to victory as they held the Timberwolves to just 27.7 percent shooting on the evening.  Augustana also forced 16 turnovers, collecting seven steals and recording five blocks.

Augustana started the game on a 10-0 run led by Tinklenberg's two quick three-point baskets and never trailed in the game.  The Vikings took a 43-27 lead into the intermission with Tinkelnberg scoring 10 points and Shaunteva Ashley contributing nine on 4-5 shooting in the first half.

The Vikings were able to coast to their 76-64 victory, but were threatened late in the second half when  Northwood cut the deficit to just five points.

Schulte and Lydia Nelson shut the Timberwolves' comeback attempts down with key baskets with under four minutes remaining in the game.  Tinklenberg made a layup with 1:12 left in the second half and Northwood was not able to get any closer than that.

The Vikings were outscored in every category from bench points to second chance points, but the Vikings prevailed with their defense.

Augsutana made four key free throws in the waning minutes of the game, with TInkelnberg and Alex Feeney making both of their attempts in the final minute of the game.

Augustana returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. central time against Hawaii Pacific
