Friday night structure fire reminder to use caution this holiday season

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Shortly before 9 PM on Friday, November 23rd, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was alerted to a structure fire at 6113 W. Bakker Park Drive.  The initial response to the emergency included four suppression vehicles and a command vehicle with a total of seventeen firefighters.

Dispatchers instructed the residents of the home to evacuate and they were able to do so without injury.

The fire originated on the deck at the rear of the structure and burned up the side of the house, eventually extending into the attic.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior fire but were forced to breach the ceiling in order to attack the interior portion of the blaze.  Extensive overhaul was necessary to control hot spots in the attic insulation.

There were no injuries to firefighters.

Following extinguishment, SFFR remained on scene to conduct an investigation and monitor the situation for further fire development.

SFFR reminds homeowners to be especially careful with combustibles during the holiday season.
