Sioux Falls group wins $10K in Powerball drawing

Posted: Updated:

Although South Dakota did not produce a jackpot winner in Wednesday night's Powerball drawing, a group from Sioux Falls did win a $10,000 prize.

The 14-member group's winning ticket was purchased at Casey's General Store on Benson Road in Sioux Falls. Group member John Larsen claimed the ticket, which matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to win the game's third prize.

According to the South Dakota Department of Revenue, South Dakota players set ticket-buying records by purchasing $1,329,503 million in Powerball tickets on Wednesday. The day's sales eclipsed the previous one-day sale of $774,800 for a Mega Millions drawing in 2012.

Powerball is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Powerball jackpot currently sits at $40 million for the next drawing on Saturday, December 1.
