A man is dead after a two-vehicle crash along Highway 34 west of Howard Thursday.
The accident was reported at 5:20 pm Thursday, just six miles west of Howard. According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, John Steinmetz, 39, was driving eastbound in a 2006 Pontiac Torrent. He drove into the path of a westbound 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Terry Dragseth, 51, of Mitchell.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Steinmetz was not wearing a seatbelt. Steinmetz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dragseth, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Mitchell hospital.
No other details have been released.
