A pursuit involving personnel from five different counties and the South Dakota Highway Patrol ended with a Kansas man in custody after his vehicle crashed.
Charles Beeney, Jr., 47 of Lansing, Kansas was arrested in a field just west of Alpena on Monday.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, Jerauld County Sheriff Jason Weber initiated the pursuit at about 9:30 a.m. after a report that a person driving a North Dakota-plated pickup had taken diesel fuel from a farm yard. The pursuit ended when Beeney crashed 2013 Chevy Duramaax into a creek.
The Jerauld County Sheriff's Office is continuing the investigation.
Sheriff's offices in Sanborn County, Buffalo County, Beadle County and Hand County, as well as the South Dakota Highway Patrol assisted.
