The cost of public transit in Sioux Falls could cost riders more change, pending a study by the Public Transit Advisory Board.
Currently, fixed-route bus rides in Sioux Falls cost $1 and paratransit rides $2. A Fixed-route monthly pass is also $25. However, City Planner Sam Trebilcock tells KSFY News the fare hasn't changed since 1995. He says it may need to increase to catch up with inflation and operation costs.
Trebilcock says while a rate increase is an option, the board does not want to deter people from riding the buses because it has seen an increase in riders recently.
A fare study will be conducted and considered by the Public Transit Advisory Board. Trebilcock said the public input is the next step, for which he plans to schedule public meetings.
The City Council would have to approve any rate changes. Trebilcock says a recommended rate increase hasn't been determined.
