The USD Coyote women's basketball team is off to a 3-5 start to the season.
The Coyotes haven't started Summit League play yet, but they're excited for that, and a first shot at the NCAA Tournament.
It's a new system at USD this season. New head coach Amy Williams took over for the departed Ryun Williams. Despite suffering a number of early season injuries, things have gone well.
"We have really meshed together after some adversity early on. We have dealt with some injuries and that has let some of our new faces come in and play roles they didn't think they would. Things have gone well." says Williams.
While the Coyotes lost one of the schools all-time greats in Amber Hegge, they have a number of key veterans back, which will create a more balanced squad.
"We have a lot of players who can do different things, which will take us farther than last year." says senior Pam January.
"Head coach Ryun Williams really left a solid base for the program. Veteran players like Alexis Yackley, Tempest Wilson, and Pam January, to go with some of the new faces, are a group who know all about winning." says Williams.
This year for the first time, the Yotes are NCAA Tourney eligible.
"It's a great opportunity for kids who like to compete." says Williams
"We want to do well in the Summit League Tournament, it's exciting to have a chance to go to the NCAA Tournament." says senior Alexis Yackley.
