PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Officials will cut the ribbon Wednesday on Pierre's recently completed Fourth Street multi-use recreational trail.
Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill said the bike path is a result of cooperation between the state and federal governments, private businesses and Robert Spaid. Spaid donated a historic bridge for the trail.
The 10,000-foot-long, 8-foot-wide trail allows for non-motorized access from Hilgers Gulch to Garfield Avenue.
The trail also features a historic bridge across Mickelson Pond. Plans are being developed to add playground equipment along the trail and fishing access in the pond.
A ceremony starts at 3 p.m. at the west side of the multi-use trail bridge.
