Trooper Andrew Steen appears to be on a faster track to recovering from his injuries sustained on the job about two months ago.
According to Steen's Facebook page, he had another surgery this morning.
KSFY News spoke with Steen's dad to see how the trooper is doing.
Trooper Steen had surgery today which doctors originally thought might not happen for another six months or a year.
Doctors had removed a piece of the troopers skull to allow for brain swelling but the trooper is doing well enough now they were able to put that piece back.
Trooper Steen's father Dan says this morning began at 4a.m. for him.
But he says if everyday could be like today, getting up early every day would be worth it.
Dan Steen tells us it took along time for trooper Steen to come out of his induced coma.
But when trooper Steen came down the hall on his recovery bed, he was back to his old self.
"His physicians were doing their rounds and as Andrew went by, he held up his hands and said 'give me five.' He gave them all the high sign and so many of the nurses that have worked with him basically came to his room, they had to see the improvement," Steen said.
In fact with trooper Steen's improvement, his dad hopes to have his son home for the holidays.
It was very moving to sit with Dan Steen, a man who is clearly so proud of his son.
He says trooper Steen is touched by the support the family has received from our community.
