Avera pediatrician: stomach flu going around schools, daycares
Doctors say parents should be aware of what may be going around your child's daycare or school.
Right now Gastroenteritis, or the stomach flu, is making plenty of kids in the area sick. Letting your kids rest and recover is key, but the most important thing is keeping them hydrated.
"Make sure they're drinking and peeing, and anytime your child is sick they don't have to eat if they aren't hungry just make sure they are drinking and peeing, we have seen kids hospitalized because of dehydration, so it is a big deal if you child has vomiting and diarrhea, just stay on top of those fluids," Avera Pediatrician Dr. Kara Bruning said.
The bug is viral, so unfortunately there is not an antibiotic or pill to make it go away. Dr. Bruning said you just have to let it run its course and make sure you and your kids stay hydrated.
