The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office has released more details regarding the death that occurred at the Detox facility.
On November 18, a 48-year-old woman died at the Minnehaha County Detoxification Center in Sioux Falls. According to the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, the woman had been drinking rubbing alcohol and whiskey.
An autopsy was conducted on November 19. According to a news release from the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, a toxicology screening of the subject's blood and urine shows a toxic level of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) was found. Additionally, non-toxic levels of ethyl alcohol and medications were noted.
The cause of death was determined to be isopropyl alcohol toxicity, and the manner of death was suicide.
The case will be forwarded to the Minnehaha County State's Attorney Office for review, pursuant to standard policy and procedure on unattended deaths.
