Family of 1 of 2 Iowa cousins speaks about case

Posted: Updated:

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - The parents of one of two Iowa cousins who disappeared last summer and who bodies were recently found say their faith in God is stronger than ever.

Heather Collins said at a news conference Thursday that she knows God was with her daughter, Elizabeth, and her niece, Lyric Cook, when they were killed. She and her husband say they will meet with Gov. Terry Branstad next week to discuss death penalty legislation.

Hunters discovered the bodies of Elizabeth and Lyric last week in a wooded area near Evansdale. Elizabeth was 8 and Lyric was 10 when they disappeared in July.

A visitation and memorial service for Elizabeth will be held Thursday in Cedar Falls. Lyric's family says a service for her will be scheduled after Christmas or early next year.
